A little village church

May 3, 2009
Today Jesse, Joshua and I and some other missionaries went to a little church in a village about 2 hours away from the capital city, we had a wonderful time singing and hearing His word. Church in Togo is so different from church in the U.S. for one I was sitting a backless bench, but the people hear love church and they love to sing about Christ. I love hearing them sing in French but my favorite is Kabiye it is the mother tongue of the Kabiye people.
After the service we went to a waterfall up on the mountain it was so refreshing, Joshua was having so much fun, I know he could have stayed in that one spot all day long, he loves all of the adventures, he loves Africa.
When we finished at the waterfall we went to a Africans house for lunch, we had fufu and sauce with meat in it, and soda. I learned a few things today about the Togolise culture. When we arrived at the house we sat down in a big room and they began to bring some buckets of water around to us, one had soap in it and the other was just water. I just started washing my hands because in America when you eat you wash both hands right, well not in Togo. A missionary explained to me the left hand is your dirty hand, the one you use when you go the bathroom so they never shake hands or eat with that hand. So he explained to us that you only wash your right hand and you only wash up to the end of your fingers, because that is all you use when you are eating. Strike one for me.
They gave us each a bowl with fufu and sauce in it, I was excited because I love fufu, Joshua was not excited because he thought he was not going to like it, because Jesse does not like it. Well Joshua was wrong he loved it, a African showed him how to eat it and he dug in, he was gnawing on the meat, all of the Africans loved watching him. I believe he will become one of them, that is what one of the Africans told Joshua.
It was a wonderful day, we enjoyed the experience so much. What a wonderful life in Togo.

News about our container

April 30th
I am currently in Lome with Jesse and Joshua, we have been here since Tuesday, it is now Thursday it has been almost a week since our container has been in port. We have run into a few complications. We were told yesterday that we might have our container by Tues of next week,
well that is not going to happen.
We received some bad news yesterday (Wed), and it was going to make our faith stretch a lot. The freighter company that was used made it look like everything in our container belonged to them, and when it arrived it was changed to our name saying that the container belonged to us. Now the port in Togo is confused because of all of the changes, and they are very suspicious of what is going on. They want to look at everything in our container. We were going to be talking to a government official Thurs morning to try and get them to just let it go. We as a family have been praying and asking the Lord to take control and help us to accept every thing and to give us wisdom in our decision making and our actions, also that we will continue to praise and thank God for everything that is done, we know that He is in complete control.
As we are getting ready to go see the government official we received a phone call saying they do not want to meet with us, and that the container is going to be opened, and we are not going to be able to talk our way out of it. I must admit I did not have the response I should have, I sat down and cried, it was a hard fact to swallow, we have been working so hard to try and get this container to Togo, and now to hit a wall like this, was to much. Jesse and I prayed and thanked God for what He is doing, and asked Him for strength for the future with the container. It has been a very long road, but we know that God has a plan.

Lome trip

April 27th
I am so excited Jesse, Joshua and I are leaving for Lome tomorrow the capital city of Togo. Our container arrived on Friday and we are praying that we will be able to get it out of port tomorrow or Wednesday. We are so excited to be possibly getting our junk very soon. It has been a very long three months, to not have all of our junk. It has really showed me how much stuff we can really live without. I am very, very thankful for our junk.
The trip will take 6 hours, but it will be so nice because we are in the vehicle that God gave us, and it is so comfy.
